The Rallie Recap
🤩 Billions is at stake in the battle between Musk and Zuck. Here’s what all the buzz is about:
For those who are not aware… Elon Musk is the owner of Twitter, CEO of Tesla, founder of SpaceX, and co-founder of The Boring Company (yes, that’s a real company of his). 🌐
💣 So, what’s the drama? After years of back-and-forth attacks about each other’s companies, ranging from Elon claiming that Instagram “makes people depressed” to Zuckerberg highlighting a SpaceX explosion that accidentally blew up a satellite used by Facebook, a cage fight is in the making.
Late last week, Zuckerberg started a fight with Musk in the corporate arena. In an attempt to overtake Twitter, Meta launched Threads, a social media text app, which many are calling Twitter’s clone. 📲
😎 And it’s a big win for Zuckerberg: The new app came in with a bang, breaking records by adding over 100M users in less than five days, becoming the fastest growing app to date. (Zuck - you still got it!)
But the trash talk reached a boiling point: 😡

Twitter is striking back with the law by 🚨 accusing Meta of taking Twitter’s trade secrets and other intellectual property, Musk’s company claims that Threads was unethically developed using Twitter’s former employees. 🕵
📉 Will Twitter’s legal action make a difference? The platform, which is facing increasing controversy over paywalls, is experiencing massive drops in traffic since Threads launched last week.

👩⚖️ In Europe, the road to make Threads available for download is bumpy. Lawmakers cite security, competition, regulation and data concerns that severely impact consumers’ privacy and options for restricting the app’s reach.
Yet, the platform is projected to only receive a slight delay in availability with predictions that Meta will adjust itself to prove regulatory compliance despite some “upcoming regulatory uncertainty.”
So will Twitter take a win in the near future? 🥊 From physical to economic fights, the corporate clash could affect you. Be sure to stay updated with The Weekly Rallie!

Rallie Refresh: Amortization
😵💫 Think deflating balloon… How is this mouthful of a word involved in your finances? We’re talking amortization in today’s refresh:
🏛️ What is amortization?
Amortization is a tactic used to gradually lower the book value of a loan or intangible asset over a set period of time.
This process helps businesses and investors understand and forecast their costs over time or provide insight on the portion of a loan payment that consists of interest vs. the portion that is principal.
The difference between this concept and depreciation is that amortization refers to intangible assets (ex: patents) compared to depreciation’s tangible assets (assets that are subject to physical wear and tear).
✌️ What are the two situations of amortization?
When you are gradually paying off debt through regular installments that include both interest and principal amounts, ensuring that the loan is completely repaid by its maturity date.
When an individual or organization spreads out their capital expenses related to intangible assets over a specified duration for accounting and tax purposes.
🤓 Most accounting and spreadsheet technology have functions to calculate amortization automatically, so you don’t need to worry too much about how to do it. If you are curious about negative amortization and more, let us know!
