Not just one phone call, who to trust?

❤️ Love scams - Loneliness & Connection

Don't get your heart and wallet broken. Of all the possible scams, love scams are the hardest to convince the victim that they are being defrauded. Find out how to identify the different types of love scams and avoid falling victim to one.

Who do they pretend to be?

  • 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family members

  • 🤝 Friends

  • 🤩 Celebrities

  • 💞 Romantic partners

It isn’t just one phone call, for scammers posing as romantic partners…

🗓️ Love scams are developed over weeks, months or years of conversations (usually starting with an online conversation or dating site, and targets lonely individuals).

🚨 CRISIS!! 🚨

Scammers come up with some form of crisis they are having or to pay for a flight for them to come visit them, BUT once the money is received, scammers will pretend they still need more money to be sent until victims has no money left to send. 💔

As a result, victims gets so financially and emotionally invested that they will not give up on their dreams of being together with this person.

Turning the victim into a criminal: Second variation

  • 💳 In this context, the scammer will tell the victim that they need them to send money in the form of bitcoin and will have a relative to send the victim money through cheque or online.

  • Once the victim takes money out of their bank and sends the bitcoin, the scammer will reverse the transaction to the victim’s bank.

  • 👮 Afterwards, the bank will come after the victim with accusations of fraud and money laundering which the victim will have to pay back reversed transaction’s amount to the bank.

Targeting the elderly: Third variation

  • 👵 The scammer impersonates an elderly person’s granddaughter or grandson saying that they are in trouble and need money in the form of bitcoin.

  • ☑️ So, always remind family members to verify with others or the granddaughter/grandson in question when sending over money through bitcoin.

Remember to empathize with and educate victims instead of shame. This is only one of the three scams people can fall victim to.
