🤖 Big tech has entered its AI era.

• On Monday, Microsoft tripled down on OpenAI, announcing a 10 billion dollar investment in the company, following two previous investments in 2019 & 2021.

• The cash comes at a key time, as big tech races to see who will become the Michael Phelps of artificial intelligence. 

• Alongside DeepMind (owned by Google's parent company, Alphabet) and FAIR (Facebook AI Research), OpenAI is said to be one of top three AI companies worldwide. 

• Since November, OpenAI has lit up headlines for their product, ChatGPT, amassing over 1M users in only 5 days. 

• Does this mean ChatGPT will stay free a little longer? We really hope so. 

🎂 Happy birthday, Ethereum! 

Yesterday, marked 9 years since ETH founder, Vitalik Buterin, published a blog post titled, 'Welcome to the New Beginning' changing crypto forever. Here's a few of our fav Ethereum facts:

• Vitalik is Russian-Canadian and was only 19 when he first introduced his Ethereum smart contract platform to the internet.

• Don’t mix up Ethereum and Ether. Ether (ETH) is the native token that people trade in, Ethereum is the underlying blockchain network. ETH is the second largest cryptocurrency by market cap, behind Bitcoin.

• Ethereum uses proof-of-stake as it's consensus mechanism, after switching from proof-of-work last September. The switch made it more secure and less energy-intensive, cutting energy usage by 99%.

• 🐣 As egg prices soar, so do the number of smuggling attempts at the El Paso border crossing, rising 108% in Q4 of 2022 alone. Egg smuggling, we didn't seen it coming.

• 📉 Google held a town hall after announcing its largest round of layoffs ever... the theme? The future of AI is here, and Google needs to keep up.

• 👏 Meanwhile, Apple CEO, Tim Cook, took a 40% pay cut at his own request. Apple is the only major tech company that hasn't had a massive layoff. Big tech CEOs, take note.

🪧 50 years on, abortion rights are still human rights. 

• Sunday marked the 50th anniversary of the now-overturned Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that established federal protections for abortion care in America.

• Crowds turned up across the US for the annual Women's March, an event first held on Jan. 21, 2017, the day after Trump’s inauguration. The march was initially organized to protest misogyny and to stand up for reproductive rights.

• This year's theme was 'Bigger Than Roe' as women across America fight for their constitutional right to abortion care that was stripped away last June.

• The main march was held in Wisconsin, where upcoming elections could determine the state Supreme Court’s power over future abortion rights.
